WE OFFER DEEP-TISSUE MASSAGE!

10/24/2016

At Van Fleet Chiropractic, our massage staff are proficient in many different massage related therapies, styles, and modalities, making them suitable for a variety of conditions and treatment scenarios.

One of the services we offer is deep tissue massage. With this massage therapy option the goal is to therapeutically reach deeper layers of tissue, effect fluid flow, release deep knots, and restore proper range of motion.

With a deeper massage, there is greater likelihood that you may experience some side effects. It is important to understand these side-effects, why they occur, and what you and your practitioner can do to reduce them.

Pain is a somewhat common side-effect, usually associated with a newer injury, or more severe post-injury soft-tissue scarring. It may occur during a massage, and will usually subside as the knots and tissues release, or it may occur after the massage, as the tissues cool. If the pain increases in severity some days after the massage, it is important to talk with your doctor here to see what can be done to alleviate it. In many circumstances, post treatment pain can be alleviated with some simple exercise recommendations and stretches, or a mild NSAID.

Soreness is a very common side effect, that almost always self-resolves. We always notify our patients of this common side-effect, and will give recommendations to alleviate its severity. These recommendations include stretching, heat, gentle, full-range motion, and low-dose NSAID. When receiving a massage the same day as an adjustment, some post-treatment soreness is common, and usually resolves within 24 hours.

Nausea can occur when undergoing any kind of bodywork, be it massage, chiropractic, or self-care. This can be simply a result of the body releasing inflammation into the surrounding tissues, or can be a more serious problem. It is important to let your practitioner know if you are having any kind of nausea during or after your therapy.

Let us know if you have any of the above symptoms linger for greater than 24 hours after your treatment. If you have any concerns about these pre-treatment, let your practitioner know, we’d be happy to discuss them with you!

The care team at Van Fleet Chiropractic puts our patients’ needs and desires at the very center of what we do. We are committed to serving our community through providing proven, reliable, and evidence-based therapies. Our passion is to improve the quality of life in our patients, at all stages.
